The WGA has stated that it will picket the programme's studios on Monday and Tuesday as a result of the writers' and actors' strike, however Drew Barrymore of the Drew Barrymore programme has still declared the resumption of the show. According to the terms of the strike, Drew Barrymore announced on Instagram that her daytime chat show will shortly begin its fourth season. However, a Writers Guild representative told The Hollywood Reporter that Drew is a fantastic show and that union members would all be picketing in front of Barrymore's studios on Monday and Tuesday in New York City. The spokesman stated in the statement, "It has been off the air since the strike started on May 2nd but has now (unfortunately) decided to return without its writers."
Any strike-affected show that is still in production will continue to be picketed by the Guild for the length of the strike. On September 18, the afternoon programme will debut its fourth season. According to a CBS Media Ventures spokeswoman who talked to THR, "The Drew Barrymore Show will not be performing any writing work covered by the WGA strike." Barrymore began her Instagram post by talking about her choice to cancel her hosting duties for the MTV Film and TV Awards in May in support of the recently-called-out writers' strike. “It had a direct conflict with what the strike was dealing with which was studios, streamers, film, and television,” she wrote in the post and caption. “It was also in the first week of the strike and so I did what I thought was the appropriate thing at the time to stand in solidarity with the writers.”
She also discussed how Season 3 abruptly ended before the strike. Although she sounds certain of her decision, the host asserts that the show is "bigger than just me." I made this decision, Barrymore said. "We are in compliance with not discussing or promoting any type of strike film or television. In the middle of a pandemic, we went live. Our programme was created for delicate occasions and has only ever succeeded by reflecting what the actual world is experiencing right now. "I want to be there to provide what writers do so well, which is a way to bring us together or help us make sense of the human experience," she said in closing. “I hope for a resolve for everyone as soon as possible. We have navigated difficult times since we first came on air. And so I take a step forward to start season 4 once again with an astute humility.”
