SpaceX faces a multi-million dollar lawsuit filed by a family in Texas after a family member died in a car accident near a company’s launch site.

The Venegas family in San Benito sued SpaceX, demanding $20 million in damages.

The lawsuit alleges that the accident was caused by SpaceX's gross negligence. The accident occurred in the early morning of June 7, 2020, when the family was returning from a camp.

In a collision with an 18-wheel car near the SpaceX facility, her husband and father of one, Carlos Javier Venegas (35 years old) were killed.

Venegas' wife Lucinne Venegas and three children were injured. According to court records, the Venegas family's lawyers argued that SpaceX failed to equip and modernize the highway to achieve large amounts of continuous use. The burden of upgrading the highway is on SpaceX, not the local government.

SpaceX's lawyer said that the accident was caused by Venegas' negligence.
